Company Overview:
American R&D Center (ARDC) is a central R&D organization of the TDK Group. Its mission is to contribute to the design of new products within TDK with the ambition to create new product lines. ARDC is working closely with InvenSense Inc., a TDK Group Company, who is the world’s leading provider of MEMS sensor platforms. InvenSense’s vision of Sensing Everything™ targets the consumer electronics and industrial markets with integrated Motion, Sound, UltraSound, Pressure, Gas solutions.
InvenSense’s motion tracking, audio, ultrasound, and services can be found in many of the world’s largest and most iconic brands including smartphones, tablets, wearables, drones, gaming devices, internet of things, automotive products, and remote controls for smart TVs.
Both ARDC & InvenSense are headquartered in San Jose, CA, and have offices in Boston, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, France, Slovakia, and Italy.
Detailed description of the internship:
The regular monitoring of heart and breathing is crucial to detect precociously potential diseases. The access to health care is more and more difficult due to the delay of a medical consultation and in some areas due to the distance of the medical center. This is why remote consultation is a great tool for the medical profession to ensure a continuous monitoring of patients.
However, physical exams such heart rate and breathing control cannot be done remotely. To enable effective remote consultations and accommodate access to medical health care, patients must be equipped to realize some basic measures essential for the doctor's examination.
The goal of the internship is to use the MEMS technology to analyze the heart beating and breathing signals of microphones and accelerometers, to extract useful features from a clean signal and to build a classification of potential diseases.
The intern will be part of the ARDC algorithm team specialized in signal processing and machine learning. He/she will be guided to experiment on the mechanical integration of sensors, to define the data acquisition specification and to design the signal processing used to extract meaningful features.
Using existing and internal tools, the intern will create a real time application to demonstrate his work.
Key steps:
• Learning: get familiar with audio and accelerometer data
• Bibliography: search for existing technique and available online databases
• Experimentation: mechanical integration of sensors
• Characterization: database collection and annotation
• Implementation: prototype solution in Python or C
• Showcasing: real-time demonstration of extracted features on a dedicated application
Contract: Professional Internship
Qualification required: Bac+5 program
